Smartphone, Tablet, and Laptop Repair FAQ

1. I JUST DROPPED MY PHONE AND SHATTERED THE GLASS. EVERYTHING SEEMS TO WORK, EXCEPT THE GLASS IS BROKEN/SHATTERED. CAN IT BE FIXED, AND IF SO, IS IT WORTH IT?

Yes! For most models of smartphones including iPhone, Samsung, BlackBerry, HTC, LG, and Nokia, the display can be replaced for a fraction of the price of buying a new phone, and making the backing up and transferring of your data/contacts unnecessary.

For many older model phones, replacing the glass, touchscreen digitizer, and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) as one unit, is the more cost effective repair, as the price of the pre-assembled display unit is cheaper than the extra labor involved in removing the glass from the LCD unit.

For some of the newest smart phones, who's OLED/LCD displays alone are several hundred dollars, then attempting a "glass-only" repair may be suggested. Removing the glass from the LCD display does incur some risk, but depending on the extent of the damage, may be more cost effective than replacing the glass and the display as a pre-assembled unit.

2. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REPLACE THE DISPLAY ON MY PHONE?

How long a repair will take depends on several different factors. Different model phones are put together differently, and some take longer than others to access the parts we need to replace.

Some phones require home buttons, cameras, earpieces, proximity sensors, etc., to be transferred from the old screen, to the new screen.

If the frame or chasis of the phone has been damaged (corner or sidewall damage), it may have to be repaired before the screen replacement will sit flush into the phone.

How busy we are at a given time can sometimes factor into how long your repair will take. If this is the case, and we are extremely busy, you will be told when your phone is being assessed for repair.

Some screen replacements are very straight forward and can be completed in less than an hour, while others can take several hours or longer, depending on the model of phone and nature of the repairs.

We should be able to give you an estimate of time required to complete the repair upon assessing your phone for repair.

3. I DROPPED MY PHONE IN A PUDDLE/IN THE TOILET/IN MY RUM AND COKE/IN THE POOL ... AND NOW IT'S NOT WORKING. CAN YOU REVIVE MY SMARTPHONE?

In most cases, YES!

At iBroke, we pride ourselves in our very high rate of successful Water Damage Repair. We have revived phones that went swimming in water, Rum and Coke, orange juice (10 days earlier), coffee, and milk.

We completely tear down the phone - right to the logic board - and clean all the components and electrical connections of any and all corrosion and/or foreign residue.

Our Water Damage Repair service starts at $59.99 and up - depending on how much effort is required to tear down the particular phone model.

4. DO YOU REPLACE IPHONE BATTERIES?

We sure do!

iPhone Battery Replacements start at $35.00 including labor and taxes, and in most cases can be done on the spot, if we have your battery in stock.

If your iPhone requires frequent charging, or if your phone "shuts off" at 12 to 40% power remaining, it very well may be time to replace your battery. iPhone Lithium-Ion batteries are generally good for 500-600 full charge/discharge cycles.

Please contact or call us to confirm we have your battery in stock, or to order it. Batteries typically can be ordered in within 3 business days

Remote Computer Cleaning and Tune-up FAQ

1. What is Malware?

Malware - short for malicious software - is a generalized term used to refer to any files or programs placed on your computer for the purpose of collecting data without your knowledge. It could be something as simple as a tracking cookie, that merchants place on your system to identify you on your next visit to their site, but also tells them where else you have surfed, right up to and including spyware, viruses, trojans, toolbars, email emoticons, popups, and search redirectors. Multiple malware instances can severely degrade the performance of your computer.

2. I have an antivirus program, so I'm protected right?

Yes and no.

Yes, you are probably more protected from common viruses than the guy who is not running an antivirus program, but not all antivirus programs are created equally, and many of the various malwares in circulation today can pass right by most antivirus programs undetected. You need to physically scan and remove malware on a regular schedule, as well as running a decent resident antivirus program.

3. Is Remote Access safe? Can you go on my computer anytime?

Our remote access client is 100% secure and uses 256-bit military strength encryption . The same secure connections used for online banking, PayPal, Amazon, and Google Checkout.

Each time you run the software, it gives you a unique ID and password. Our techs (or anybody else for that matter), cannot access your machine unless you give them these codes, which are valid for that session only. Each time you run the remote access client, it will generate new random passcodes, which you will need to give to the tech to allow access.

All iBroke technicians have a minimum of 3 years of tech support experience, and have passed a background check. We are 100% bondable.

4. How long does a remote cleaning/tuneup take?

Dependant on how deep the malware is in your system, we run a series of deep registry scans, as well as full hard drive scans. Some computers can be done in 2 hours, while more problematic computers might take 6 hours or more. We will remove all malware - regardless how long it takes - for the same flat fee, even if it requires a second visit to complete the cleaning.

5. How much of a difference will a remote cleaning/tune-up make to my computer?

We guarantee you will see at least a 50% performance increase, but many of our clients see a 200% performance increase or more!

6. Do I need to be at my computer while you do it?

To initially set up the secure remote session, yes you will need to be at your computer, but once the session has been started, your presence is entirely up to you, but it is not necessary.

We will ask you for a contact phone number before we start, in case we need to get hold of you if your computer crashes, or the computer does not restart the current session after a remote reboot. Some updates and optimizations require a reboot to commit to the computer's memory, and we may need you to restart the session, or if we have any questions we need to ask you, should you decide not to sit and watch us work.

7. Can you install an antivirus for me?

We sure can! In recent times, the internet has become a playground for cyber-criminals and bored script kiddies. Surfing the internet without an antivirus program installed is not advisable. The amount you pay for an antivirus program is not an indicator of how well it will work.

We strongly recommend AVAST! Antivirus to all of our clients, and it is FREE for personal home use. We have tested several antivirus offerings, and have found AVAST! to be one of the most thorough antivirus programs on the market, and also offers a built-in ROOT KIT SCAN , which is a very handy feature that many premium antivirus programs do not even include. We will be more than happy to install and configure it for you.

8. I received a phone call from 'Microsoft Security Response Team' - informing me that I have malware on my computer. Should I allow them to repair it for me?

DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE - THIS IS A SCAM!

Microsoft will NEVER phone you telling you they have detected malware on your computer. This is a very common SCAM that has been making it's rounds for about two years now. These are cyber con artists that ask you for your credit card info, and charge you anywhere from $100 to $150 to simply install Avast Antivirus and Malware Bytes onto your computer. Both these programs can be downloaded for FREE, so these criminals just made $150 profit from you, as well as having your complete information that they can sell to other online marketers.

If you have recently given your credit card information to somebody claiming to be from Microsoft (and more recently from DELL also), then contact your credit card company and request a chargeback immediately.

9. I keep getting a 'This copy of Windows is not genuine' notice on my screen. Can you get rid of it for me?

Yes we can help you. iBroke also operates a brick and mortar computer repair business, and we buy broken AS-IS computers from eBay, specifically for their licenses - which are completely transferable.

Whether you lost your license key, or you never had one, we do not judge or ask questions. We can install a 100% legitimate, legal license for you for $50. (saving you up to $175) .

10. Can you help me upload music to my iPhone/iPod?

Yes we certainly can! We provide support for most brands of MP3 players, smartphones, wireless printers, and DSLR cameras. **

11. I think my neighbors are stealing my Wi-Fi signal. Can you help me secure my wireless network?

Yes we can! We can secure your Wi-Fi network, and implement a network security policy for you and your family, to keep your home network secured from unwanted intruders. **
